This building did not always look like this though. Hard to believe it was originally a tram depot running from 1880 and closing in 1909. In 1909 the building received a makeover to make it more appropriate for the building's next use, as the Coliseum Vaudville theatre. The facade became elaborately detailed and a large iron cupola was installed above, in the Victorian second Empire style. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">In 1914-1918 the building was used as a munition factory but returned to it's cultural use as a theatre again in 1939. It has remained the Independent theatre since then with a private school buying it more recently.</div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01505350532371575435noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5109298825768952207.post-58646142707635512462017-01-21T21:55:00.001-08:002017-01-21T21:55:48.750-08:00Barangaroo<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLqnwgXgv7lteBWw1K7Z7eNkSxaDYaOyO5JpyHJCekUBmDmOfgGn_tonY6h9u4XvMjxaiZZFtQLYKd_yGJCasPQVhZL5Sce_bCfURt32GA-JnaSdPyifJR6KLey8Fcf9sq8VxHv-XrLJ7P/s640/blogger-image--692460490.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLqnwgXgv7lteBWw1K7Z7eNkSxaDYaOyO5JpyHJCekUBmDmOfgGn_tonY6h9u4XvMjxaiZZFtQLYKd_yGJCasPQVhZL5Sce_bCfURt32GA-JnaSdPyifJR6KLey8Fcf9sq8VxHv-XrLJ7P/s640/blogger-image--692460490.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">A warm morning at Barangaroo today sketching with friends. </div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01505350532371575435noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5109298825768952207.post-18545044823394824492017-01-18T12:23:00.001-08:002017-01-18T12:24:49.065-08:00MacDonaldtown railway station<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIgqMi-fGtrkX6F9OQeHFgYx6jMAdV_NRnvlgQxYpg4bWRNzja1HIJXDGfRJuwJT4P5Vhh8YEEGdDR5zvM42HDM0pj23bD1vQeXQ4kGZumdQKrnbNJ1nPSsp83_qgAvi1qyMKQkmQDyRxD/s640/blogger-image-1650887345.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIgqMi-fGtrkX6F9OQeHFgYx6jMAdV_NRnvlgQxYpg4bWRNzja1HIJXDGfRJuwJT4P5Vhh8YEEGdDR5zvM42HDM0pj23bD1vQeXQ4kGZumdQKrnbNJ1nPSsp83_qgAvi1qyMKQkmQDyRxD/s640/blogger-image-1650887345.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Sketch club met at Macdonaldtown railway station last weekend. Macdonaldtown is a charming little suburb between Redfern and Newtown. This station was built in 1892. I am amused by Wikipedia's information saying that in 1986 a local 18 year old boy and his 14 year old brother painted the station pink. They stuck a table, chairs and pot plant (all painted pink) on it to enhance it' prettiness. The pink seems to be painted over and furniture removed, unfortunately.</div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01505350532371575435noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5109298825768952207.post-14885941103661306682017-01-15T00:09:00.001-08:002017-01-15T00:11:39.891-08:00Too hot to sketch outside<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRwuoK78_V9-XBmI2yOCXdz42yuRWaKHTrdbIcZksap4yn69qlPCq8c8i-Vd6kRWBLQbivl9ukpREUiM1i41bqfKXTuGUwNTKh_gQp1i0VSx_RunFzTk_UnbTJ5DiCD1G9e0mRcvDctlPQ/s640/blogger-image--1001823814.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRwuoK78_V9-XBmI2yOCXdz42yuRWaKHTrdbIcZksap4yn69qlPCq8c8i-Vd6kRWBLQbivl9ukpREUiM1i41bqfKXTuGUwNTKh_gQp1i0VSx_RunFzTk_UnbTJ5DiCD1G9e0mRcvDctlPQ/s640/blogger-image--1001823814.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Saturday was very hot and humid and a little too warm to go out sketching. Things changed when the Vaucluse estate carved off some of their harbour side property and sold it to the public, thus making Nielsen Park. <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhB4cKIsVK6J1w2K7FutG5GTvwqVKOi7BcPX6gFGdusmiog_lzJfK-rJ14NS0hjKsvTCCbh0tdLjBEE80w2fTyX0UyXmEo5-JUDftRNEnUKy9IgKshP_pOMfaCoiIirmrEmeV2y88tubFi6/s640/blogger-image--2032607463.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhB4cKIsVK6J1w2K7FutG5GTvwqVKOi7BcPX6gFGdusmiog_lzJfK-rJ14NS0hjKsvTCCbh0tdLjBEE80w2fTyX0UyXmEo5-JUDftRNEnUKy9IgKshP_pOMfaCoiIirmrEmeV2y88tubFi6/s640/blogger-image--2032607463.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Every Christmas I scratch around my mind for an idea for the annual Christmas card. I have friends who get very cranky if they don't receive a hand made card in the mail, so it is important not to disappoint. The idea doesn't often present itself easily and time is spent in a little state of frustration. The subject usually ends up being something that is of interest at that time. For example, last year I was thrilled to see a Supurb fairy wren in my yard and so this was the subject on 2015's card. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Recently I saw, and also sketched, a vintage Ford half ton truck from a nearby street. About the same time I started to think about Xmas cards, so the Ford became the subject. The truck is like one my dad drove , he would cut a tree down and it would come home like in the sketch, although the tree wasn't usually so symmetrical!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I've printed the linocut on a vintage map of the south Coast and this is where Christmas holidays were often spent in my Australian life. Everything came together and so I was pleased with this year's effort.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
At work we have a competition decorating ginger bread houses. Each office has a kit and we can do anything with it. We pushed the idea a little by, again, using the truck idea and making it out of gingerbread. You can't see it but there's a gingerbread tree in the back. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
So, one idea spread across a couple of idea requiring projects....done and dusted.</div>

It's a beautiful building , a confection of colour.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">I then looked to the corner diagonally from town hall to the scene above. The colourful awnings and funny little structures built on to the original Victorian building attracted a few of us to sketch.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDUywoN2j8nsPiHjqgrOh1dZ_O8Cz0ziXObfSTd4XDXtYCkz24tfF39ccqLiqy5lM1vS-pZxIWto3_bznB9MiEluh5LskQYyb5ZY2rGHrHPhpKz92uhUnRLwuk79_fidvZE5u1895V3Es7/s640/blogger-image--721264484.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDUywoN2j8nsPiHjqgrOh1dZ_O8Cz0ziXObfSTd4XDXtYCkz24tfF39ccqLiqy5lM1vS-pZxIWto3_bznB9MiEluh5LskQYyb5ZY2rGHrHPhpKz92uhUnRLwuk79_fidvZE5u1895V3Es7/s640/blogger-image--721264484.jpg"></a></div><br></div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01505350532371575435noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5109298825768952207.post-50925699839165441812016-12-11T23:57:00.001-08:002016-12-11T23:58:21.093-08:00Revolver Cafe<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyElwXcKY7_UIei7ob9y75tkix8S9GxNC70wOhyphenhyphenK-yAOImsVAmsRGNXSQ6jFlASy-MmNqdJ83_hCB-Leso75In_G5a7IrHnaEa00H4Lz9rRC23zSiJyNrm9uAp6pwZOWT6llvyoGOGoyjr/s640/blogger-image-1117379280.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyElwXcKY7_UIei7ob9y75tkix8S9GxNC70wOhyphenhyphenK-yAOImsVAmsRGNXSQ6jFlASy-MmNqdJ83_hCB-Leso75In_G5a7IrHnaEa00H4Lz9rRC23zSiJyNrm9uAp6pwZOWT6llvyoGOGoyjr/s640/blogger-image-1117379280.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">A friend and I sketched the side of this Annandale Cafe yesterday.
